Smoky Mountain Smokers – The Story

Joe Amore grew up in Pensacola, FL , and at the age of 21, went into his own Plumbing Business. During this time, Joe became very intrigued by competition BBQ, and visited many contests. At that time the ones that he saw were Memphis In May sanctioned contests. He then discovered and became a member of KCBS (Kansas City Barbecue Society). After receiving his monthly Bull Sheet, he came across Oklahoma Joe Smokers. He purchased several pits from Joe Davidson (owner of Oklahoma Joe’s) and would call Joe Davidson, and receive some great barbequing tips. Joe Amore soon developed a pretty good skill set in BBQ, and all of his friends and family really enjoyed his barbeque.

Joe sold his very successful plumbing business and retired to the Smoky Mountains. With time on his hands now, he was ready to learn the ropes in Competition BBQ, Joe contacted Kevin Bevington of HomeBBQ.com and asked him to come to his home and give him a private class in 2004. After practicing for many  months, he was ready to compete. In May of 2005 Joe and Voncile started their journey cooking KCBS events. They did very well the first year with three Reserves and many top tens. After that year they were hooked! Joe designed another barbeque trailer with living quarters for their 2006 competition season and the rest is history.

While competing they came up with an Award Winning BBQ Sauce and decided to have it bottled. As time passed they added another sauce and now have three BBQ Rubs. They also sell Disposable Cutting boards in two sizes.

Joe and Voncile will continue to compete on the bbq circuit as long as they continue to enjoy themselves and all the friends that they have met.
